Les besoins de la culture en azote vont dépendre des objectifs de rendement, de qualité et du mode d’entretien du sol. Une carence en azote se traduit par un manque de vigueur, des difficultés de mise en réserve, la diminution de la fermentescibilité des moûts, la dépréciation de la quantité et de la qualité de la récolte.  

Le potassium est aussi un élément important pour la vigne. Un bon ajustement de sa disponibilité est nécessaire car en cas de carences ou d’excès le potassium impactera le rendement et la qualité des récoltes.  

Parmi les éléments secondaires à surveiller en priorité nous retrouvons également le magnésium et le fer.
